Weihai is located on the eastern tip of Shandong Peninsula, facing Korea and Japan across the sea. It's the nearest city to Korea in China. Its jurisdiction covers Huancui District, Wendeng District, Rongcheng City and Rushan City, and has set up state-level High-tech Industrial Development Zone, Economic and Technological Development Zone, International Port Economic and Technological Development Zone, Integrated Free Trade Zone. Weihai covers a land area of 5,822.5 square kilometers with a coastline of 968 kilometers and a population of 2.92 million.
威海自然风光秀丽，气候和环境宜人，冬无严寒夏无酷暑，雨水丰富、年温适中、气候温和。受海洋的调节作用，具有春冷、夏凉、秋暖、冬温四季分明的特点。空气质量优良率达90%以上，市区绿化覆盖率达到50%，是中国空气质量与海水质量最好的地区之一，具有“海在城中，城在山中，楼在林中，人在绿中”的独特景观。
Weihai is endowed with beautiful natural scenery, agreeable climate, pleasant environment, abundant rainfall and moderate annual temperature. There is neither severe winter nor sultry summer. Due to the moderation of the ocean, Weihai also features distinctive four seasons with cold spring, cool summer, warm autumn and mild winter. Excellent air quality rate has reached over 90%, and the urban green coverage rate has reached 50%. 古时威海被认为是日神所居之地，秦始皇、汉武帝都曾东巡至此，留下许多文化遗迹，使威海成为千古流传的祈福之地。1398年明朝在此设卫屯兵，取名威海卫，意为“威震海疆”，威海由此得名。1898年被英国租借，1930年收回并设为省级威海卫行政区，1987年成立地级威海市。
In ancient times, Weihai was considered the place where the Sun God lives. Both Emperor Qinshihuang and Emperor Hanwudi had patrolled eastward here and left many cultural relics, which made Weihai a historic place for blessing. In 1398, the Ming Dynasty quartered troops here and named the place "Weihaiwei" which means "having the power oven coastal area and territorial sea”. Hence the region was named Weihai. In 1898, Weihai was forced to lease to UK till the year 1930 when Weihai was set up as provincial level administrative region. In 1987, prefectural-level Weihai City was established.
清朝在刘公岛组建了中国第一支海军。作为北洋水师的诞生地和甲午海战的主战场，与香港一起成为闻一多先生笔下的“七子”，威海被推到了中国近代史的前沿阵地。历史的长河给威海留下深厚的文化积淀，秦风古韵与现代文明在这里交融，中英文化、中韩文化、中日文化在这里交汇，为这座美丽的城市增添了无限魅力。
China's first navy was established on Liugong Island in the Qing Dynasty. As the birthplace of Beiyang Navy and the main battle field of Sino-Japanese Naval War, Weihai became one of the "seven sons" together with Hong Kong in the poem written by Mr. Wen Yiduo and was tightly bonded with the modern history of China. The long history has left Weihai solid cultural heritage, the integration of a traditional culture and the modern civilization. There are a number of worldwide renowned international sports events held in Weihai. Weihai has been the host for the large events, including ITU Triathlon World Series, International Sailing Competition, International Fishing Competitions for many years. In 1902, the British built China's first golf course on Liugong Island - the British Royal Navy Golf Course. Weihai Point, known as "the No. 1 Sea View Golf Course in Northern China", is the only golf course in Asia with every hole facing the sea.
航空 Air Transportation
在1小时车程内有威海、烟台两个国际机场、2小时车程内有青岛国际机场，可方便地直飞或转机到国内各大城市及世界各地。
Driving from downtown, you can reach both Weihai International Airport and Yantai International Airport in one hour. Qingdao International Airport is within two-hour drive. The direct and transfer flights can lead you to major cities in China and everywhere all around the world.
铁路 Railway Transportation
桃威铁路开行至北京、济南、武昌、菏泽4对旅客列车；青荣城际铁路于2014年开通，客运量已累计突破3000万人次；菜荣高铁于2023年底开通运营。
Taocun-Weihai Railway has opened 4 rounds of passenger railway to Beijing, Jinan, Wuchang and Heze. Qingdao-Yantai-Weihai-Rongcheng Intercity Railway has been fully put into use in 2014, with the amount of passengers of over 30 million. Laixi-Rongcheng Railway has been put into operation by the end of 2023.
公路 Road Transportation
全市公路通车里程达到7235.3公里，其中国省干线公路1340.1公里（高速公路235.1公里），农村公路5895.2公里。

港口 Port Transportation
全市港口统称威海港，由威海湾港区、石岛港区、龙眼湾港区、蜊江港区、南海港区和乳山口港区6个港区组成，拥有万吨级以上泊位33个，共开通国际国内班轮航线34条，其中客运班轮航线6条，集装箱班轮航线28条，是国内开通至韩国班轮航线最密集的城市。

威海拥有国家级研发平台30家，省级研发平台507家，11所高等院校设立校区。构建政产学研金服用协同发展的“1+4+N”创新体系，工信部电子信息技术综合研究中心落户威海，高技术产业开发区成为山东半岛国家自主创新示范区的6个片区之一，全市高新技术产业产值比重达到71.1%。
There are 30 national level R&D platforms, 507 provincial level R&D platforms, and 11 colleges and universities. In accordance with the "1+4+N" collaborative innovation model integrating industry, university, research, finance, service and practice, efforts have been made to build the National Regional Innovation Center. The Electronics and Information Technology Comprehensive Research Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has settled in Weihai. 2018年7月24日，国务院正式批复同意在威海市设立跨境电子商务综合试验区，是山东省第二个、全国第三批国家级跨境电子商务综合试验区。
On July 24, 2018, the State Council finally approved the establishment of a Cross-Border E-Commerce Comprehensive Pilot Zone in Weihai, known as one of the only two national-level cross-border e-commerce comprehensive pilot zones in Shandong Province.
自2018年10月1日起，对符合条件的未取得有效进货凭证的跨境电子商务零售出口实行增值税、消费税免税政策。
Since October 1, 2018, the policies of VAT and consumption tax exemption have been implemented for eligible cross-border e-commerce export enterprises without obtaining valid purchase certificates.
目前威海市已建成多处跨境电商海关特殊监管场所，构建了跨境电子商务集成服务体系，打造了中日韩跨境电商高速物流通道，跨境电商零售出口居全国前列。

2018年9月20日，威海综合保税区正式通过国家封关验收，总投资8亿元、总建筑面积34万平米，启动建设了全省首个多模式跨境电商创新产业园，逐步建成功能齐全、体系完善、保障到位的跨境电商生态体系。

2016年2月，威海获批国家服务贸易创新发展试点，2018年6月，威海获批国家深化服务贸易创新发展试点，2020年8月，威海获批国家全面深化服务贸易创新发展试点。威海是试点当中仅有的两个地级市之一，也是山东省唯一个连续三次入选的城市。

经认定的技术先进型服务企业，减按15%税率缴纳企业所得税。职工教育经费不超过工资薪金总额8%部分税前扣除，超过部分在以后纳税年度结转扣除。

2015年6月1日，中韩自贸协定正式签署，威海与仁川自由经济区被中韩两国选定为中韩自贸区地方经济合作示范区，威海成为中国首个、也是唯一写入国际双边自贸协定的中国城市，开启了中韩合作新篇章。威海与仁川已发展成为中韩两国间城市交流合作的典范。
On June 1, 2015, the China-Korea Free Trade Agreement was officially signed. Weihai and Incheon Free Economic Zone have been selected as China-Korea Free Trade Agreement Local Economic Cooperation Demonstration Areas. 与仁川签署了加强地方经济合作议定书，互设城市形象展示馆和代表处；创新性地成立了威海一仁川地方经济合作联合委员会及分委员会，开展两地部门直接对话。
